Fun & Excitement at the Chamber the weekend of July 23, 2006

There was a beautiful thunder storm on Saturday night with lots of lightning

The lightning immediately created a big fire.  This picture was taken at Empire Landing on Sunday.  Along with the lightning, we got some incredibly hot and dry winds during the storm.  The hot winds were in excess of 90F and unlike anything that anyone had felt at Catalina in a long time.

LA Fire Helicopters started working early Saturday AM.  Over 40 landings had been made by 3PM on Sunday

During the helo water loading, a water main broke beneath the kitchen.  It completely filled the kitchen, dining area, and TV room with 2+ inches of water in a matter of minutes.  The TV room used to be a "Mud Free" zone.  We shoveled hundreds of pounds of mud from the carpet and adjacent floor that was solution mined from beneath the slab.  We theorize that the leak was caused by water hammer from loading the helos.
