Dive Report - May 14, 2006

Phil, Merry, Jason, and I met on Saturday and dove the Avalon and an amazing new reef that I found off Palos Verdes.  Sunday was spent with Elaine, Beth, Jeff, and Sue.  We dove the new reef again, tried for the Johanna Smith but aborted due to 1' vis near the bottom, and finished up at the Olympic.  I feel blessed to have such great friends and quick access to good diving.

5" long Berhella californica (Behrens p.38)

The new reef is absolutely covered in invertibrate life.
It's almost impossible to find even 1 finger hold that isn't covered in something.

Anisodoris nobilis
(Behrens p66)

Triopha catalinae
Catalina triopha (Behrens p56)

Doriopsilla spaldingi

stinging siphonophore, praya.

salp

Copper Rockfish

Elaine pointed out this cool little coonstripe shrimp

This is most likely colonial cup coral, Coenocyathus bowersi.

A happy Elaine getting a little relaxation between dives.
There was fog on the housing lens but I love this pic anyway!
